Client Session ~ April

In the words of April’s owner, this is April’s story:

April came to me about four years ago as a rescue dog. She is an English Staffordshire Terrier, I think she is about five years old. We decided to have her join our family officially on the 1st of April - our own ‘April fool’. She was found abandoned in an industrial site and was extremely persistent in her quest to be taken home as she sat with her rescuer all day while he worked all the while with her little paw on his back.

It was evident that she had had some puppies herself and was very timid - especially around men. With lot’s of TLC and good nourishing food and a fearless leader she could look up too (her big sister Jess - a fellow Pitbull who is now chasing rainbows on the other side) there was no stopping her rehabilitation. She is the most sweetest, cuddly and affectionate little girl and those chocolate drop eyes have a way of placing a permanent stamp on everyones heart.

April is a darling little girl, such a sweet face and so cuddly and affectionate, even when she didn’t really know me!

Doesn’t she have the coolest ears? One black, and one spotty.

Those eyes definitely melt your heart.

2009-05-31-0128-bw

Of course I couldn’t resist some delightful head wrinkles.

But it was gorgeous spotty pink and white belly that got me every time. All recovered now from the litters she had, she just loves to show it off.

July 11, 2009 - 3:19 PM Catherine - I agree, and what a sweetheart! oww

June 27, 2009 - 3:09 AM Claire - charlotte, every one of these is stunning!

Client Session ~ Toby

Toby is the eight year old big brother of the pack. He’s been around for a while and puts up (to a certain point) with being harassed by Asha, like a trouper. With bright, clear eyes he certainly hasn’t lost any of his good looks and still manages to get a tongue in your mouth at every available opportunity. I was caught out a number of times, he’s very quick and sneaky!

2009-05-31-0165

Doesn’t look his age, does he?

2009-05-31-0179-bw

Toby modeled for me like a pro.

2009-05-31-0170

What a life, chilling out on the front verandah in the hammock, this one brought the doggy grin out!

2009-05-31-0195

His smile is infectious, what a happy boy.

July 4, 2009 - 7:11 PM Ashley - Love your work!! Love that photo on the hammock, what a great capture! Cheers, Ashley

June 13, 2009 - 2:14 PM Ashley Johnson - These are such beautiful photos. Your color is just spectacular! Nice work.

June 12, 2009 - 9:49 AM Yolanda - Toby is so happy and smiling, these photos brightened my day!

Client Session ~ Asha

Asha is one of the three beautiful dogs I photographed last weekend, the other two, Toby and April, will follow over the coming days.

Asha the American Staffordshire Terrier is just over a year old, definitely the baby of the family. Although young and very playful and active, Asha is quite clever and quickly worked out just what I wanted from her. A very focused girl when there are treats on offer, she discovered the how to work the vending machine (me) and developed into the perfect little doggy model.

2009-05-31-0012

I couldn’t resist getting a shot of her frog impression.

2009-05-31-0026

What a pretty girl!

2009-05-31-0036

Doggy details.

2009-05-31-0040-bw

Asha loves her beanbag and posed beautifully on it for me.

2009-05-31-0054

No furniture is out of bounds for these lucky pooches (sounds a bit like my house) so we tried some shots on the great vintage lounge seat.

2009-05-31-0067-bw

After the serious business of modelling, we headed down to the yard for some relaxing and playtime.

June 17, 2009 - 6:39 AM Stephanie - Love these. You documented every bit of the pup. My favorite is her out on all fours and you captured her tail.

Sneak Peek ~ Asha, April & Toby

I photographed these guys on the weekend and yep, they were just as good to take photos of as they look! Loved them all and can’t wait to show their owners all the photos, on the way soon!

2009-05-31-0199

June 4, 2009 - 3:26 AM Lessie - How precious are they? You have the best job!

June 3, 2009 - 11:25 PM Susan Dodd - Love it!!!

Friend Session ~ Orbit { Part II }

Orbit the Great Dane’s Mum works at as a vet nurse, and the lucky boy gets to go to work with her every day and hang out at the vet surgery. While I was there with them, I thought Orbit would be a good subject to try out a new lens that I was borrowing from a friend (for camera geeks, it’s the Canon 70-200mm f2.8 with IS) in practice for a shoot later that day.

One of Orbit’s favourite games, chasey around the picnic tables…

It wasn’t long before I caught some sweet moments between Orbit and his Mum…

But he was soon back to being cheeky with his toy.

The longer lens allows me to step back but still focus in on the little details.

Makes everything easy when I have a gorgeous subject (intensely focused on the treats his Mum was holding just out of frame).

May 30, 2009 - 6:26 AM Stephanie - Wow! These pics are awesome. And I have never been a big fan of such a big zoom however these shots have swayed me to think otherwise :)

May 29, 2009 - 8:36 AM Charlotte - Lens is great! It's about 3rd down my wishlist though, there are a couple of others I would like more. I also have the 100-300 f4 Sigma so that kind of fills the spot at the moment. Erin - I just happen to know a lot of people with Great Danes! I have to say, they are my most favourite breed of dog to shoot, though I may be a little biased.

May 29, 2009 - 8:32 AM Claire - lovely shots---what did you think of the lens?? it's on the top of my wishlist...

May 29, 2009 - 8:19 AM e - Isn't it an awesome lens? I am so jealous of all your Great Dane subjects! Gracie + I always do the forehead to forehead move. That is the sweetest shot ever.
