Pet Photography Sessions

Pet photo sessions generally run for about 1-2 hours and are "on-location" - meaning in outdoor locations using natural light (instead of inside in a studio with a backdrop and artificial lights). Your own home and yard as a location for photos is often more suitable than you think! Beautiful locations are a bonus though and can greatly enhance the look of your final images - parks, beaches, foreshore or urban locations are all good places to try. We'll usually do some shots at home plus another location.

If I am photographing your dog, during the session there will be lots of playing, running, chasing and general fun and games. I encourage dogs to be natural and do their doggy thing at times, but at other times during the session I might work with them directly to capture their unique character or physical traits - such as that cute kink in their tail, a set of soft floppy ears, a big toothsome grin or distinctive markings.

Photo sessions with other pets such as cats and horses will run a little differently and I will fill you in on what to expect before the day.

My mission is to tell your pet's story by capturing candid, fun and natural shots of the fun loving creatures they are and the interactions they have with the people who love them - so if you wish to be in some photos with your pets you are more than welcome.

Our final destination is the presentation of some engaging, often humorous and always fresh art of your best friend that portrays them perfectly. I like nothing more than seeing some wall art hanging proudly in your home, or a session album taking pride of place on your coffee table, allowing you to be constantly reminded of your pet’s story and just how special they are.

As a devoted owner myself, I understand that pets are often more like members of your family. Their time with us is fleeting, making their existence treasured. Photos of your pet can be looked back on for years to come and will serve to remind you of those happy times with your beloved pet.

About Charlotte

Pets and animals have always been a big part of my life. While growing up, my family have always had at least a couple of dogs around and at one stage our extensive list of pets included a dog, a cat, many guinea pigs, a budgie, some fish, sheep, ducks, geese, chickens and a Green Tree Frog!

All through school my dream was to be a vet, but when it came time to decide on a career path, something pulled me in the creative direction of photography instead. I went on to complete a Diploma of Photography then after that, further study in web design and graphic design, which I ended up pursuing a career in.

When it came time to get a dog all of my own, I decided on a Great Dane. Kaya was amazing and everything I wanted in a dog. My favourite subject and my muse, a day didn't go by when she wasn't photographed. In 2007 I started my pet photography business inspired by my beautiful girl. Kaya was joined a year or so later by my second Great Dane, Luna. They were instantly the best of friends!

In March 2009, Kaya was diagnosed with a fast moving form of sarcoma cancer. It was all over so quickly - less than a week after she started showing signs she wasn’t well we had to make the heartbreaking decision to set her free, at the tender age of two.

It was hard to continue with the business after losing my best friend and muse but in the end I decided to keep on, knowing that every new dog I met and worked with would remind me in some way of my Kaya, and help keep my memory of her alive.

All this opened my eyes even more to just how important it is to have lots of beautiful photos to remember our beloved dogs by. They are with us for such a relatively short time that in many cases people just don’t think to take photos of them, or if they do, they soon find out how tricky it can be to get that perfect shot!

As you'll quickly discover, I have a genuine interest in you and your dog. I love hearing funny stories about your experiences with your best mate – how you met – whether it was love at first sight – stories about those first months of puppy behaviour – all about your dog’s best friends – anything you want to tell me to give me a deeper insight into what makes them tick!

I’m looking forward to meeting you and your best friend soon.
