Client Session ~ Roy and Jack on the Gold Coast

Introducing – Jack (right) and Roy (left). They are 12 year old Jack Russell x Maltese and yes, they are brothers! They’ve lived blessed lives with their beloved mum, Sharon, and this is their story.

Sharon contacted me urgently in late 2012, as her beloved Roy had just been diagnosed with cancer. Unfortunately I was just heading off on holidays so we couldn’t schedule the session straight away, but as soon as I was heading back I gave Sharon a call and received some great new; Roy had responded well to the treatment and was ready for his glamour shoot! Roy is a “one-person” dog and is totally attached to his mum. The feeling is mutual, Sharon describes Roy as the love of her life.

His brother Jack is friends with anyone and everyone (as long as there’s something in it for him like pats and scratches, of course), and tends to spend more time around his dad, Marty.

Jack and Roy are lucky to live on the waterfront at Coombabah on the Gold Coast, so can bask in the afternoon sunshine to their hearts content. Roy was quite happy to sit here for me on the edge of the pool, but the light made him a little squinty!

We headed off down the road to a lovely waterfront park instead. Since Roy has slowed down a little lately due to his health problems, he actually proved to be the better model, quite content to stand stock still for me – just as long as him mum was right there as well!

Jack on the other hand took a little more cajoling to stay in the same spot for more than about 5 seconds. He is very curious, always checking things out and going from smell to smell.

Jack is actually blind in one eye, but it doesn’t seem to bother him in the slightest!

Roy seems to enjoy spending his time while out and about observing his surroundings and contemplating life.

He’s always totally up for cuddles with his beloved mum.

Such a thoughtful boy – what is he thinking here?

He has that pensive look totally nailed. I love the way his little ears fold over and point towards his nose.

Roy is very defensive of his mum and when some other dogs strolled though the park, he went into guard dog mode! For cute little dog he sure has a tough bark!

Due to Roy’s recent health issues, Sharon wanted to concentrate on him during our session to make sure we got some really stunning shots. Jack went home and we found a nice spot in the gardens just as the sun was setting for some shots focusing on Roy.

I love the way the backlight shines through his furry little legs and I’m a total sucker for that late afternoon golden sunshine.

Roy is totally comfortable in his mothers arms and looks right at home.

After the short walk home from the park, we had just enough time for a few more shots in the backyard as the sun was setting.

Roy was pretty tired after his big adventure and was almost falling asleep while Sharon patted him on the back deck.

I absolutely loved my session with Jack and Roy and it was so great to meet someone so devoted to her pups. Roy’s health is currently fairly stable with treatment, so I’m optimistic that he’ll be around for a while yet. Who is is going to look after his mum otherwise?

I’m currently waiting for some pics from Sharon of her walls, as she ended up ordering quite a lot of wall art of her two babies! In the meantime, she was kind enough to write me a lovely testimonial:

“I LOVED my photos and I will cherish them forever. I was unsure as to whether or not I wanted an album but I love it. Its been by my bedside ever since and I cant stop picking it up…

I cant even begin to tell you how much I love my products. Charlotte was able to capture both my dogs personalities perfectly. I am already planning my next session…”

I can’t wait, Sharon! Just say the word. :)
